How to Apply
Applications can be downloaded now and will be accepted from 30 January 2012 to 16 June 2012.
You can only apply:
- for one of the bursaries, not both
- once you have made BU your Firm choice
- once for a bursary. However, providing you meet eligibility criteria (including household income and maintenance grant) you can receive the award each year whilst at BU*.
* No support will be offered to students during their placement year, Foundation degree students who receive the Maintenance bursary are supported for the first year only.

Can I apply for both of the bursaries on offer?
You will be able to apply for one of bursaries. However, we encourage you to also apply for the Academic Achiever Scholarships.
How will I be selected for a BU Bursary?
The selection criteria will assess applications to ensure all the elements are met
We will use the proof of your household income which is provided to us by the Student Loans Company. In order for us to view this information, please ensure that you have given permission for the Student Loans Company to share this with us - the official term for this is called ‘Consent to Share Income Information’.
If there are more applicants for the BU Maintenance bursaries than the overall number available, a University panel will rank and select students on the basis of the criteria, including evidence of the potential as a future ambassador for BU (for example, if you are engaged in community volunteering, mentoring/peer support projects, sports, extra curricular activities, work experience, caring responsibilities, etc).
Eligible students who apply for the Care Leavers bursary will be guaranteed to receive the bursary.
How will I know if I have been successful?
We will assess all applications in July, at the same time. You will know if you’ve been successful in mid-August at the same time as the A level results are published, and your place at BU is confirmed. We will write to you to inform you if you have been rewarded a BU bursary.
When will I receive the Bursary?
For each year you receive a BU Bursary you will receive three equal instalments, one in the autumn term (mid-October), one in the spring term (early January) and one in the summer term (late April).
How do I get an application form to apply?
