Sports Scholarship
September 2011 or January 2012 entry
If you are a demon on the rugby field or an accomplished athlete, a Sports Scholarship might be for you. You will be expected to represent BU in your chosen sport and in return, we will help you pay for your sports equipment and costs with a non-repayable award.
Which nationalities may apply for this scholarship?
Applicants subject to pay the full fee at the UK/EU rate may apply.
To which courses does this scholarship apply?
- All BU full-time undergraduate, including BU courses delivered at a BU South West Region Partner
- Only students paying BU the full tuition fee can apply. Therefore part-time and NHS funded students are not eligible.

How many scholarships are awarded annually?
Sports Scholarships to the value of £15,000 per annum in total will be awarded in any one year.
How much is the scholarship worth?
Two types of sports scholarship may be awarded:
- A Major award is worth £1,000
- A Minor award is worth around £500.
Scholarships will be paid for the first year of study and may be continued for subsequent years of study providing you continue to meet the criteria.
How is this scholarship paid?
Scholarships will normally be paid in kind (coaching and equipment).
What are the criteria for this scholarship?
- You must be able to demonstrate that you are a talented sportsperson and have a desire to continue to develop your sports skills, as well as your academic profile
- You will be expected to represent your sport at national or junior international level or be able to demonstrate the potential to compete at this level.
Other information about this scholarship
Recipients of this scholarship cannot apply for any other scholarship.

Deadlines
September 2011 entry – The deadline for applications is 30th September 2011.
January 2012 entry – The deadline for applications is 15 February 2012.
When will I hear if I have been successful?
If your application is shortlisted you may be required to attend an interview. We will let you know the outcome in principle two weeks after you come and see us; however your award will not be formally approved until you hold an unconditional firm offer.
