The Media School
Talbot Campus
The Media School at Bournemouth University is the only Centre for Excellence in Media Practice in the UK, offering courses in Corporate & Marketing Communications, Journalism & Communication, Media Production and Computer Animation.
Stephen Jukes, Dean of the Media School:
At the Media School we offer a unique mix of the highest academic values and industry-standard professional skills. That means that when it is time to seek a job in the rapidly changing world of the creative media industry, you can hit the ground running. My pledge is that we are here to help you realise the intellectual achievement and build the professional skills needed to succeed in today's global economy.
What else The Media School can offer you:
- All your lecturers will have professional, as well as academic, backgrounds and are constantly engaged in practice and consultancy.
- All our courses are constantly updated to give you the best learning experience, ready for entry into the media and communication industries.
- Our media production, journalism and animation courses use industry standard equipment and software.
- We were the first UK university to invest in an HD TV studio, designed with the latest Sony broadcase equipment.
- You will be following in the footsteps of students who have won awards nationally and internationally in the media industry such as the Royal Television Society Student Television Awards and the National Council for the Training of Journalists.
- This year the Media School is offering new academic courses: BA (Hons) English, with a media flavour, and BSc (Hons) Software Engineering for Animation, Games and Effects, which is based on extensive top-level games and software industry consultation.
- There is a wide range of placement opportunities with lots of help and advice from our placement officers based within the school.
- You will hear from and meet excellent guest speakers such the Director-General of the BBC, Mark Thompson, who earlier this year presented a media master class to all our students.
- Over half of the School's research in computer animation and communication and media studies has been rated as of 'world-leading' quality in the 2008 RAE (Research Assessment Exercise).
