Wiltshire College Salisbury
To ensure our students have a secure, comfortable and sociable place to live, we have recently restored and enhanced the historic St. Mary's building to provide a high quality hall of residence, comprising 80 en-suite study bedrooms.
Bedrooms
The accommodation centre comprises both twin and single rooms, arranged in clusters of 6-9 rooms per block. Each room includes:
- Bed, wardrobe, drawer unit, desk and chair
- An en-suite shower and WC
- For disabled students, rooms with wheelchair access are available and all areas of the building are easily accessible.
- Internet point
Please note that if you plan to bring your own television, you must obtain a valid TV licence.
You will be required to bring your own bedding including sheets, pillows, pillowcases, blankets or duvet and cover. We also advise that you bring coat hangers.
On-site, coin operated laundry facilities are available. The College will provide a cleaning service for all communal areas but you will be expected to clean your own bedroom and en-suite shower-room regularly, and keep kitchens reasonably clean.
Kitchens
St Mary's House is self-catering. Each cluster of rooms has its own kitchen/dining area that include lockable cupboards, cooker, fridge-freezer, microwave and table and chairs.
You will need to bring a supply of crockery, cutlery, saucepans, cooking utensils, dishcloths and tea towels.
Study and leisure facilities
St Mary's includes a communal Higher Education Centre, complete with PC workstations where you can catch up on your studies, send and receive emails, or simply relax. There is also a social room with a TV/Video and pool table.
Security
The College Estates Department will ensure the security of the building, providing nightly Site Officer Patrols and a 24-hour point-of-contact in case of emergency. You will be provided with keys to your room to ensure controlled access. We would strongly advise that you take out individual insurance cover for your personal belongings.
Occasionally the College may need access to your room to carry out maintenance services. You will be notified in advance should we require access to your room. In the event of an emergency, the College reserves the right to enter rooms at any time.
Student support
A Residence Manager will be on hand to offer on-site supervision and to support your personal and social needs whilst maintaining a safe, harmonious living environment. Our highly trained Student Services team is also available during the day to offer financial advice, confidential counselling and help with any other issues or concerns that may arise.
Rents and deposits
Rents will be charged by the term/annually and you will be asked to complete a Direct Debit mandate to enable payment. Rates include all bills including internet charges. The weekly charges for 2010/11 are:
- Single £95
- Shared £80
- Single Occupancy of a twin room £120
A refundable deposit of £150 is payable before taking up residence. This deposit will be returned to you in full when you vacate St Mary's, providing you have met the Terms and Conditions of Residence. Residents will be held jointly responsible for communal areas of the building. You will be responsible for any damage in your own room and for the loss of keys/access cards. Damage that cannot be attributed to an individual or group may be deducted from the deposits of all residents.
Residential Licence Agreement
Prior to taking up residence, you will be required to sign a Residential Licence Agreement for 40 weeks (covering vacation periods at Easter and Christmas). This is a contractual agreement and you will be liable for rent for the entire period of the licence. In signing the licence, you agree to abide by the Terms and Conditions of Residence, full details of which will be issued with confirmation of your allocated accommodation.
The College reserves the right to terminate the agreement should you breach the conditions.
Location
St Mary's House is located on Churchill Way East, just behind the main College site. The on-site location not only means that your lectures will be right on your doorstep, but you will have access to the College's facilities such as our IT resources, library, shop, restaurants and Student Centre.
Only a few minutes walk away from Salisbury's beautiful city centre and famous Cathedral, St Mary's House is ideally located for access to local tourist attractions and amenities such as the Arts Centre, theatre, cinema, shops, leisure centre and nightlife.
