Lansdowne Campus locations

We have organised our virtual tour around several key categories to help you explore the Lansdowne Campus – which is most interesting for you?

Student Life

The Students’ Union is the centre of student entertainment, and its nightclub, The Old Fire Station, is your venue to play and have fun! The well-known venue offers a variety of different student nights and hosts big, exciting tours. The club is the hub of student life and in recent years bands like The Automatic, Bloc Party, James Morrison and The Fratellis have graced the stage, while DJs and live acts like Zane Lowe have rocked the crowds.

Student Well-being

Once you have enrolled at Bournemouth University askBU Student Services at Bournemouth House will be your main point for all non-academic enquiries. The team will be on hand to advise you on your accommodation, IT Services, Careers and Placement, and more. They may refer you to our Medical Centre based on Talbot Campus. They are based on the ground floor of Bournemouth House, as well as at the Base on Talbot Campus.

Opening hours:
Monday, Tuesday & Thursday 8.30am – 5pm
Wednesday 8.30am – 3pm
Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm

Learning Spaces

Bournemouth House is the hub of the Lansdowne Campus and houses our Health & Social Care and postgraduate Business & Management students.

Bournemouth House Library provides access to extensive up-to-date resources. These include over 40,000 e-books, 18,000 e-journals and many databases as well as our established printed collections. Each of our courses is supported by subject specialist librarians who work alongside Schools to provide advice on finding the best material for your studies. Our campuses are Wi-Fi-compatible and many students choose to work on their own laptops and log in to our virtual learning environment myBU, which provides access to discussion forums, wikis, blogs and podcasts. You may be able to submit your assignments online. We will provide you with a mySearch login, a tool that trawls all our library resources and those on Google Scholar.

Many of BU’s courses in Health & Social Care include a significant proportion of clinical-based placements within the South West region. Our on-campus skills-suites at Studland House aid the transition between theory and real-life practice and give our students the confidence and credibility to go out into the clinical workplace and be effective, valuable members of the caring professions.

The Executive Business Centre is due to open in 2009. Our new building will become a focal point for the local business community, and an ideas exchange for the region. It will also deliver the School’s postgraduate portfolio, including our new flagship course, The Bournemouth MBA. It will feature a contemporary design, cutting-edge conference facilities, the very latest in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) and a restaurant and coffee shop, which will also be open for use by the public.

Accommodation on Lansdowne Campus

Three of our major student residences are based on the Lansdowne Campus. These are: Cranborne House, Purbeck House and Hurn House. The residences tend to combine communal spaces – shared kitchens and living spaces with a private bedroom/study space and an en-suite bathroom. Each room has an internet connection, and students have access to a laundrette and bike storage as well as excellent connections for the subsidised bus service and Bournemouth rail station. BU also has a bespoke student residence on the waterfront of Poole Harbour called Corfe House, which can be reached by rail in twelve minutes from the Lansdowne Campus. We also run a UniLet scheme, where students are tenants for private landlords vetted by BU. This option is popular for students wishing to bring their cars to university. The Student Village is our Talbot Campus-based residential community. We also have dedicated postgraduate accommodation as well as residences, which prioritise Health & Social Care students on clinical placements. The BU accommodation service provides information on each option and we are happy to discuss additional living requirements with prospective students who are disabled. We have accessible studios in both the Student Village and Cranborne House.
