Brigadier Jane Arigho CBE RRC

Brigadier Jane Arigho is a perioperative nurse who has served with great distinction at the head of the British Army’s medical services. After a series of increasingly senior
posts in Army hospitals in the UK and overseas she became Director of Army Nursing Services in 1995. Later, as Director Defence Nursing Services, she established the unified military nursing organisation
which is celebrated for its life-saving work in many conflicts including the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. After retirement Jane Arigho was Colonel Commandant of the Queen Alexandra’s Royal Army Nursing
Corps from 2005 until 2008.

Bernard Dyer
Doctor of Science
Wednesday 4 November - Afternoon Ceremony
Bernard Dyer is a distinguished
industrial chemist who spent most
of his working life at senior levels
in ICI, where he led numerous
major projects and was ultimately
responsible for all new products.
Latterly he was a member of
the Board Support Group at
the company’s Millbank HQ. In
retirement he has tirelessly served
the British Association for the
Advancement of Science, which
brings scientists and industry
together, and other charities. He
has also greatly enriched the life
of Dorset as Chairman of the Poole
Harbour Heritage Project and other
maritime heritage bodies, and as
Chairman of Dorset Life magazine.

Darren Kenny OBE
Doctor of Arts
Tuesday 3 November - Morning Ceremony
Darren Kenny is an outstanding
Paralympic cyclist who sets
an inspirational example of
determination and perseverance
against the odds. Accidents and
injuries seemed to have ended
his career at the age of 18, but he
returned to competitive cycling some
years later and swiftly rose to the
heights of international success.
At the 2008 Paralympic Games in
Beijing he won four gold medals and
one silver, following two gold medals
and one silver at Athens in 2004.
He has been World Cup champion
six times and holds numerous
speed records.

Peter Kosminsky
Doctor of Arts
Friday 6 November - Morning Ceremony
Peter Kosminsky is an eminent
TV drama director and writer. His
critically acclaimed work has for
many years dealt with strong social
and international issues such as
child abuse (No Child of Mine),
bullying in schools (Walking on
the Moon), the United Nations’
involvement in Bosnia (Warriors)
and the death of the government
scientist David Kelly (The
Government Inspector). Britz, in
2007, reflected the differing attitudes
of second-generation British
Muslims to world events through the
stories of a young Muslim brother
and sister. Peter Kosminsky is a
Visiting Fellow of The Media School
at Bournemouth University.

Gordon Page CBE DL
Doctor of Business Administration
Thursday 5 November - Morning Ceremony
Gordon Page has made an enormous
contribution to the business
community of Bournemouth, Poole
and Dorset over a period of two
decades. After 27 years with Rolls
Royce he joined Cobham plc in
1990. As Chief Executive and later
Chairman, he led the company to
global standing as a front-runner
in the development, delivery
and support of aerospace and
defence systems. He is currently
Chairman of Hamworthy plc. Among
many other prominent roles in
business and education he chairs
the Multi-Area Agreement for
Bournemouth, Dorset and Poole,
a partnership of local authorities,
businesses and educational and
training organisations (including
Bournemouth University) working
for the economic development of
the region.

Bernard Roberts
Doctor of Engineering

Bernard Roberts is the founder
and Chief Executive of Marben
Engineering Co Ltd, a Ferndown based
company which makes
and supplies boiler technology
equipment for power stations around
the world. As a leading international
specialist in boiler engineering,
Bernard’s expertise is much in
demand and he has played key
technical roles in many high
profile power-supply projects, many
in developing countries. These have
led him into extensive charitable
work, most notably in Zimbabwe
where he has organised many relief
projects and has supported schools,
universities, hospitals and churches.
