BU Honorary Graduates
An Honorary Degree is one of higher education's most significant accolades. The University confers a small number of Honorary Degrees each year on persons who meet at least one of the following criteria:
- National figure(s) of relevance to the University's professional mission
- Past or present member(s) of the University Board and/or of the University staff, who have given long and outstanding service to the University
- Distinguished person(s) who have strong local connections.
The decision to confer an award, and the precise title of the degree, rests with Senate and the Unversity Board, who are advised by Nominations Committee. The people concerned receive their degrees at one of BU's awards ceremonies held in November of each year. During the ceremony an oration is delivered.
