The Chancellor's Chair and the University Lecterns were designed and made, using English oak and sycamore, by Simon Pirie at his workshop at Briantspuddle, Dorset. Simon is a 1994 graduate of the University's MSc in Forest Product Technology (Design and Manufacture) and was a lecturer in Furniture Design at the University before he left to set up his own furniture design workshop.
This year, a new lectern has been designed by Simon and presented to the University, thanks to the generosity of Dr Alan Perry. It features two carvings: the University Crest and the crossed cods symbol, representing the relationship between BU and Memorial University of Newfoundland, Canada.
