The Beacon

Caring for the elderly

The Beacon is our annual publication that helps us to share the wide range of work produced in The School of Health & Social Care at BU with partners across health and social care organisations - and with one another.

We see HSC as an integral part of local health and social care communities with our purpose being to contribute to the improvement of wellbeing in these communities, together with the enhancement of health and social care provision. It is for these reasons we think it is important to provide information on our activities, progress and plans for the future.

This is a somewhat turbulent time in the worlds of both healthcare and higher education. The imminent changes to Strategic Health Authorities and Primary Care Trusts, the move towards the establishment of Health Education England, and the introduction of Skills Networks and GP Commissioning Consortia all have implications for the School. We are endeavouring to work in partnership with colleagues in Dorset and surrounding areas as the transition takes place, to ensure your local University can offer facilitation and support as appropriate.
