In Europe we now have 12 Socrates
contracts allowing both student and teacher mobility.
However our main activity within Europe is through the membership of COHEHRE (the Consortium of Institutes of Higher Education in Health and Rehabilitation In Europe
). It is through the projects and activities of Cohehre ie joint curriculum/course development and educational research. Current areas of involvement are the ICHCI course, cultural awareness course and the complimentary therapy course. Professor Iain Graham is President of Cohehre.
Other European links are developing with Uppsala University Sweden
(Public Health and Advanced Practice) Tallin, Medical College, Estonia
(Public Health Nursing), and a potential development in Sarajevo, Bosnia.
Other European activity is being realised through the membership of the Florence Network for Nursing and Midwifery
and the Federation of Nurse Educators in Europe
(F.I.N.E.). Professor Kate Galvin and Les Todres are leading an initiative in research collaboration with the University of Vaxjo Sweden
. The field of this research is into life-world research.
In North America we have a long established relationship with the School of Nursing at Vanderbilt University Nashville, Tennessee
. Through the relationship we have student and staff exchange and mutual work on curriculum development at Masters (advanced Practice) and Doctorate level. The other key relationship is the University of Western Kentucky, Bowling Green
. An emerging relationship is also developing with PACE University, New York
and City University, New York
in the area of doctorate education. HSC is also a founding member of I.N.D.E.N. (International network for Doctorate Education) and is involved with the I.N.C.M.C.E (disaster management). These activities are lead by Professor Kate Galvin. Professor Dawn Freshwater is leading a master class development with the University of Texas, Houston.

In Australia Professor Philip Darbyshire at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Adelaide, South Australia is a visiting professor. The main partner for HSC in Australia is Edith Cowan University in Perth Western Australia
. It is with this University that various activities are being planned and staff exchanges have taken place. This relationship is led by Professor Dawn Freshwater.
Over the last five years HSC has been successful in receiving educational grants from the European Commission.

Over the last ten years student exchange in nursing as grown considerably with nursing students seeking overseas placements not only in the Commonwealth, the USA and Europe but Nepal, China and Middle East. The student placement officer aims to please in this regard.
Finally it is worth mentioning that an emerging area of work is developing with Nursing due to the links between HSC and Sigma Theta Tau International
