Working together is an essential requirement of our modern health service. When developing clinical leadership it is vital to ensure that this takes place within a safe and supportive environment that is not only conducive to the development and delivery of evidenced based practice, but equally fosters learning and scholarly inquiry.
Bournemouth University in close collaboration with the Wessex Institute, has developed two units of education entitled ‘Leadership in the Birth Environment’ and ‘Evidence and Practice for Maternity Emergencies’ that assists medical and midwifery practitioners working within labour ward to further develop their skills and understanding. The unit incorporates a strong interdisciplinary model of partnership, team working and joint decision making based on mutual professional respect, understanding and a shared vision for the improvement of maternity services.

Learning Together "we anticipate that your shared experiences will enhance working relationships" |
As the heads of our respective teams, we would encourage Senior Midwives and Specialist Registrars in Obstetrics to consider the opportunities that this shared unit of education will provide for your personal and professional development. In learning together we anticipate that your shared experiences will enhance the working relationship within your respective units, and through effective leadership foster understanding, communication and the quality of care for women and their families.
