Dame Betty Kershaw, President, and the Scholarship Society for Nurses and Midwives invite nursing and midwifery leaders in practice, education and research to attend a Symposium and Launch of England Honour Society for Nurses on Wednesday, 11 November 2009, Bournemouth House.

The Scholarship Society promotes the learning, knowledge and professional development of nurses and midwives committed to making a difference to health worldwide. The Society aims to work towards an England Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau in 2010.

Professor Paul Curran, Vice-Chancellor (VC), Bournemouth University (BU), will affirm his acceptance that Bournemouth University will act as the host institution.

Welcome and Launch

Time Activity Location
12.30pm – 1.20pm Annual General Meeting (active members of the Scholarship Society welcome). BG15.
1.30pm – 2.00pm Launch of England Honour Society: Dame Betty Kershaw and Prof. Paul Curran, VC BU (all welcome). Mary Wollstonecraft Lecture Theatre.

Symposium: Nursing in Times of Conflict (to coincide with 91st anniversary of the end of the First World War)

Time Activity Location
2.00pm – 2.45pm Containing Trauma in a World of Chaos: Nursing Work in the First World War: Dr Christine Hallett, University of Manchester (all welcome). Mary Wollstonecraft Lecture Theatre.
2.45pm – 3.30pm Nursing in Present Day Conflict:  Alan Dobson, Acute Care Advisor, Royal College of Nursing (all welcome). Mary Wollstonecraft Lecture Theatre.

Refreshments of tea/coffee/cake provided after symposium.
