A leading BU social work academic has been elected as an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS). |
Professor Colin Pritchard from the Centre for Social Work and Social Policy has been elected as an Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS).
The election acknowledges Professor Pritchard’s high profile achievements within academic social work research, which has often been challenging and controversial.
Professor Pritchard was nominated by two Academicians and academics, Professor Lord Raymond Plant from King’s College London and Professor Peter Coleman from the University of Southampton.
Research by Professor Pritchard has found that British general surgeons have fewer adverse events in operating theatres than found in North America, and reported on the effectiveness of social work and its impact on low violent deaths of UK children. Other academic work includes links between suicide and unemployment, and the value of supporting families of neuro–surgical patients.
Professor Pritchard joins Professor Jonathan Parker, Associate Dean (Social & Community Work), who was elected to the prestigious learning society for social science in 2008.
