All nurses who trained outside the U.K. need to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) in order to practice as a qualified nurse in the U.K. As from September 2005 all Overseas Nurse Programmes must be approved by the NMC and be delivered through service providers, in partnership with a Higher Education Institution (HEI). The Bournemouth University ONP was approved in September 2005.

The following presents information which you will need to consider before you apply for a place on the Bournemouth University Overseas Nurse Programme (ONP). If you wish to apply for a place on the ONP at Bournemouth University you:
1. Need to complete the application/assessment process to join the nurses part of the register through the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Details of this application/assessment process can be found at:

2. Must be in possession of the original documents of the following:
Photocopies of these will need to be submitted with your ONP application form. The originals will need to be presented to a member of the Overseas Nurses Programme team on the first day of your course. If you do not have them you will not be permitted to undertake the course.
3. Must ensure you complete the Overseas Nurses programme within two years from the date of your decision letter from the NMC.
