PQSW Courses

The Centre for Post Qualifying Social Work offers a portfolio of courses designed to raise standards in social work practice and help social workers demonstrate their competence to work within complex situations.

We are developing our courses in consultation with employers, practitioners and people who use services to align with The Social Work College’s Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF).

The Professional Capabilities Framework (PCF) sets out the profession’s expectations of what a social worker should be able to do at each stage of their career and professional development.

Undergraduate (H) Level Courses

Each pathway begins with the Consolidation and Preparation for Specialist Practice (CPSP) module.

Social work pathways are available in the following areas:

Within the PQSW framework there is some professional validation that can be taken as freestanding continuous professional development units. Candidates can gain an honours degree or graduate diploma on completion of the full programme.

Masters (M) Level Course

Within the PQSW framework there is some professional validation that can be taken as freestanding continuous professional development units.

In some cases candidates from other relevant professional groups will be able to undertake the programmes and gain the academic credit, however, these people will not be eligible for the post qualifying social work award.

Entry requirements

All candidates must normally be qualified in social work (CQSW, CSS, DipSw).

In some cases candidates from other relevant professional groups will be able to undertake the programmes and gain the academic credit, however, these people will not be eligible for the post qualifying social work award.

How do I get funding for these programmes?

Most agencies will sponsor their employees to undertake the programmes.
