Theme Leader of Continuing Professional Development Programmes

The most significant aspect of all tourism industries is their absolute dependence on a work force able to lead innovative and progressive change. Our team includes highly experienced academics and practitioners who contribute to a ground breaking programme of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) that sets the global benchmark.

Specific programmes are tailored to meet the needs of our clients, ranging from international operators with large staff levels to smaller businesses that employ less than 100 people. The common element that binds these clients is the desire to enhance their staff capability so that they have exceptionally well educated individuals providing the essential dynamic leadership. Specialists in our team have been engaged in successfully delivering CPD for more than two decades, with many participants achieving undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications as well as externally certificated awards. The current Tourism Management Institute CPD provision delivers Certificate/Diploma/Masters education in Destination Management in collaboration with our partner universities.

Our team is able to deliver CPD programmes that are accredited by Bournemouth University (and its partners) and non-credit bearing awards certificated by external professional organisations. This facility ensures that the partnership between academics in the Centre and practitioners in industry works in harmony to develop the future leaders of the industry.

As part of our provision, Employer Based Training Accreditation provides the opportunity for even closer cooperation in releasing and recognising the value of in–house training capabilities. We have been active in Accrediting Prior Learning of those in industry since 1988 and so we are able to bring a wealth of experience to designing CPD programmes that fit the needs of individuals and their employers.

The team delivers CPD using a wide range of mechanisms. These include online, distance learning (conferencing, discussion groups, e-mail, and blogging), face to face lectures, seminars and tutorial support. We also encourage, work place learning and the application of new learning in the practical context. We will tailor programmes to fit with your organisational needs and by using online resources distance is not an issue.

Development of best practise in CPD draws heavily on the research that takes place throughout ICTHR and this supports and informs our programmes ensuring that we are delivering leading edge solutions to make 21st century enterprises competitive and drive their success.
