ICTHR has significant expertise in management and marketing. The team has undertaken research studies and consultancy for private and public sector clients as well as international agencies. We specialise in tactical and strategic marketing management and we have expertise in a wide range of tourism industry sectors. We also have particular expertise in cultural heritage and attractions management, distribution and intermediation as well as promotion and collaboration marketing.

Our team has world experts in strategic marketing for tourism, publishing some of the most widely quoted papers and books in this area, including those on distribution channels, business frontiers and tourism management dynamics. We have been involved with a number of European Commission FP5 and FP6 projects and regularly advise the UN WTO, WTTC and EU in the field of information technology and tourism. Most recently, advice has been provided to the Egyptian Government in the development of an eTourism Strategy.

The team includes leading authors in the fields of visitor attraction and heritage management, with several extensive studies conducted for clients throughout the UK. Other studies have included projects across a number of destinations, both in the UK and overseas, with suitable emerging DMO structures and forms of governance being a particularly topical focus of enquiry. Our team includes core academics leading the Tourism Management Institute’s Professional Qualifications in Destination Management. Our research in this specialism includes studies in the Caribbean, Central Asia, Southern Africa and South East Asia, the Far East and Australasia.

Research into the development and management of tourism within the United Kingdom and continental Europe has regularly been part of our portfolio. It includes more than 50 research studies encompassing tourism, the arts and heritage, sports, rural and urban development. Within these areas our research has mainly focused on measuring the economic impacts of tourism and the arts, rural and urban/rural development/regeneration strategies and outcomes and the images of tourist destinations and heritage facilities.

We have specialists in online marketing who are engaged closely with the local and regional tourism industry in the delivery of continuing professional development courses and consultancy. Recent activities include running a series of one-day workshops for small and micro tourism enterprises on how they can leverage the digital marketing mix for competitive advantage.
