Our research into The Experimental Screen is driven by research into experimental TV, Film, Animation and Media Arts as well as by the changes to the contemporary media landscape.
From low cost to high definition media technologies, from the home producer to the latest 3d technologies, a range of factors reshape the screen as the critical, creative and theoretical space for media images. From critical, factual and documentary practice to dance performance and live screen research, our research is examining the ways in which creative producers, factual content makers and research academics can embrace new methods of production and reach new audiences whilst maintaining professionally high creative levels of quality in outputs for screen based media in a range of contexts.
Alongside this, AV media itself is being developed as a reflective tool for the development and dissemination of the research itself, and our expertise in the area of TV production is available to academics from other disciplines internally and beyond the University.
Staff work with Graduate level MA students in the Media Production Framework and we will be accepting PhD students in this area from 2012. We welcome applications for PhD research into the Experimental Screen and have studentships available through AHRC funding in Film, Digital and Media Production.
