Staff Computer Accounts

Staff computer login and mail accounts are created by IT Services upon receipt of the ‘New User Request Form’ available in Outlook. This form contains details of the user’s name, School or Professional Service and groups that they are to be members of. When the account has been created the requester is informed and will pass the details on to the new member of staff. There are nominated staff in each School or Professional Service will the ability to request new user accounts.

Staff will have a home directory set up at this time.

Staff passwords must follow the following standards.

  • Passwords changed every 91 days
  • Passwords must be a minimum of 6 characters
  • Passwords must conform to secure password standards and must be alphanumeric, e.g. K1tch3n which uses lower case characters, UPPER case characters and numbers or symbols.

If a password has been forgotten or needs to be changed for some reason then IT Services require that the user’s line manager or school administrator contacts the Service Desk [extension 65515] requesting such change and the reason for it. This will be logged as a job. It is now possible to change your password whilst away from the University. Please refer to Using Exchange from home for details. When staff leave employment Human Resources will notify IT Services and the login and email accounts are disabled/deleted.
