H Drive

All Bournemouth University staff are allocated a personal area on a central data server, to store their documents and other files. This home directory has a capacity of 600Mb for most users.

When you log on, your home directory appears as drive H.

Your H drive is accessible from whichever workstation you log into, anywhere on either campus. The data server is regularly backed up by IT Services.

Home directories are designed for storing documents and personal configuration files. Please do not use it to store applications or illegal images downloaded from the Internet.

You will also have access to the I drive or IntraStore which is a shared area divided into folders for Schools and Professional Services. Within each of these there are 3 further areas called - Public, Collaborative and Private. Access to the Private folder is restricted to members of the particular School or Professional Service. The Public and Collaborative folders are less restricted however Collaborative can be write/read restricted to specific cross School and Professional Services groups. There will be at least 1 person in your School or Professional Service who has permission to request restricted areas. In the 1st instance contact either your Academic Administration Manager or your own line manager.

Depending on your job you may find that you have drives with other letters ie S, N, O or R.

You will not normally be able to write to the C drive.

All computers should have a D drive which is usually the CD drive and there will be USB sockets for media drives
