You can now log your own job for IT or for Estates. Go to the Estates and IT Services web site and select Log an IT job or log an Estates job.

We have a series of IT Help Sheets that will give you information and possibly answer your query. Click this link to open the portal. On the left hand side there is a link called IT Help Sheets. Click on this to see the list of documents. Some go directly to our knowledge base, others in pdf or Word format. Some of the links will go to our Knowledge Base (BUKB) which you will find a link to on your Start menu.
Word and PowerPoint templates have been developed. It is quick to link to them by following these instructions. Your PowerPoint presentations, certificates and Word letters will then follow the University's branding guidelines.
We have online self managed learning materials for all staff and students. They are held within our Virtual Learning Environment [VLE] which is called myBU. We have materials for ECDL. There is no charge to staff for using these materials. Your user name and password will allow you access. Click on the myBU icon that is on the portal or click on this link myBU. We are part of the Microsoft Academy and have access to Microsoft elearning materials. Please email IT Skills for information and access codes. Please email for details of other learning materials that help you gain Microsoft Office Specialist qualifications.
Changing your password
You are required to change your password when you login for the 1st time. Your new password must be more than 8 characters long and contain a mix of UPPER case characters, lower case characters, numerics and or punctuation marks. Your new password will expire in 115 days. You will be prompted to change your password after 101 days. You will have 14 days in which to change it. You can do it immediately or wait til the last minute when the system will force you to change it. If you forget your password please phone the Service Desk for help. Please see Logging in. You can change your password whilst away from the University by using Outlook Web Access (OWA) and click Options.
The majority of printers are Ricoh copier/printers. They are all networked and linked via a series of print servers. The servers are Print9 (staff) and Print10 (students). Print10 is the print server for students, but staff can use it as well.
Ask our Service Desk about pull printing - or email itskills team. Pull printing enables you to print and collect the output from a selection of printers. It is economical and efficient and confidential. The printing only appears once you have logged in to the printer. You can be provided with a swipe card for this. Which is easier that typing in your user name and password.
When you login you will find that you have access to some different drives. The H drive is your Home directory, the I drive is a shared area and depending on your job you may have other drives available. By default you are not able to write to your C drive.

You can access your H drive and your
emails from outside the University. In an Internet browser window type the
URL for the portal
then click on the Outlook icon which is on the right hand side along with
icons representing your H drive, myBU etc. Select the document Using
Exchange 2007 to see how to access your emails from home, set Out of
Office, access your calendar and how to change your password from home. |
