About EndNote

EndNote enables you to save time by:

storing and retrieving bibliographic records using a sophisticated retrieval interface;
allowing you to download records directly from databases or from the Internet, or by inputting data manually;
working with Microsoft Word to cite references directly from your EndNote into your word documents;
allowing you to choose from a range of citation styles used by professional institutions, including the BU version of Harvard.

Obtaining EndNote

EndNote can be requested from IT Services. Please log a job with IT Services or phone 01202 965515 with the following information:

Your Name
Your PC Number
Your School
Your Room Number
Your Request to have EndNote Installed.

Updating EndNote

New versions of EndNote appear at roughly one year intervals, you will need to ensure that your version is kept up to date.

You have the option of purchasing copies for use on your personal home computers at an educational discount. The Adept Scientific webstore shows the discounted personal licence prices for EndNote. You can buy online direct from Adept Scientific. Use your Bournemouth University login credentials to access the store.

Exporting from online databases into your EndNote library is a key feature of EndNote. The following guides take you though the routines for doing this on different interfaces. Bournemouth University Harvard System using EndNote

Please download and read the readmefirstEN.pdf (PDF 58kb) which contains information on how to use the Output Style.
To download the Output Style:
- You will need to have access to your 'C' Drive, if you do not have this you will need to ask IT Services to put it on for you
- If you have access double click on Harvardbu.ens
- Copy the file to the EndNote Styles folder. Navigate to the Styles Folder of EndNote: C Drive - Program Files - EndNote (whichever version you have) - Styles and Save file into the Styles folder

Search the Library Catalogue using EndNote

To download the Connection file double click on the BUTalisv2.enz link and Copy the file to the EndNote Connections folder. Navigate to the Connections Folder of EndNote : C Drive - Program Files - EndNote 9 - Connections and Save file into the Styles folder. You will need to have access to your 'C' Drive.
