Study SpacesDespite the increasing in group learning space by over 100 places, the request for yet more group space as well as maintaining silent study areas continued. In addition over 60 power points were installed for lap top use. Our successful move to e-resources (journals and reference works) once again created the opportunity to reduce the volume of shelving and allowed a further transformation on both campuses. In December 2007 the University received the quinquennial SCONUL Award for Library design. In Summer 2008 half of the ground floor computers in The Sir Michael Cobham Library were relocated to the perimeter of the building and the study space was reconfigured with a range of different social learning spaces comprising:
The increase in social learning space immediately resulted in the three floors designated for silent study being used for this more consistently. Bournemouth House Library benefited from a reduction in shelving required for print resources with the space saved being used for two new group clusters and four more PCs. In 2009 Bournemouth House Library received its first Techno Booth with another 3 scheduled to be in place by January 2010. In 2008 more power sockets for laptops were installed. In 2009 The Sir Michael Cobham Library increased the number of PCs by six and introduced booking software to enable students to better plan their use of University's PCs. “I think (students) like the library as a place to come together, a place to go which gets you out of the house. If you study by yourself at your computer, it gets lonely and depressing.” (Department of Law 2007)
