From academic year 2011-12 you will no longer need an Athens personal account to access the majority of e-resources. Authentication is now controlled by your Bournemouth University login.
There are three main ways of gaining access off-campus.
1) Access using your Bournemouth University login
You are recommended to use the links on the Library tab on myBU or the Library web pages. These links have been created specifically to optimise ease of access, but you could also login direct at the e-resource by selecting the login that prompts you to identify Bournemouth University as your home institution. It may also mention the term Shibboleth. Do not choose the Athens option, you will not be able to login that way with your University login.
2) Access via the proxy server
This route also uses your Bournemouth University login for access but it is important that you follow the links provided on the A-Z of e-journals or on the A-Z of databases on the Catalogues and Resources page of the Library web pages. These resources are identified by the notes BU staff/student login required for off-campus access (Ezproxy) or The link above is the only off-campus access route for this service. These links are the only authenticated routes into the e-resource.
3) E-resource specific logins
Some e-resources have a specific username and password for access. A password sheet is available via the Library tab on myBU
If you any questions about access to e-resources please contact E-resources Help. This e-mail enquiry service is available 9-5 Monday to Friday. E-mails sent outside these hours will be responded to as soon as possible.
