BBC Motion Gallery

 

The BBC Motion Gallery provides access to moving images from the BBC's extensive archive. This JISC negotiated licence permits the staff and students of the licensed institutions to access a vast collection of clips for use in presentations, lectures and coursework.

Box of Broadcasts [BoB] - Requests for Off-Air Recordings

 

BoB logo
BoB or Box of Broadcasts is a service available to all Bournemouth University members of staff, researchers and students. You need to register first to receive a password. Using BoB you can record TV and radio programmes from Freeview, and request programmes that have been broadcast in the previous seven days. BoB uses an Electronic Programme Guide which means you can schedule requests for programmes up to seven days in advance. BoB is available off-campus. Requested programmes will play in your web browser. BoB is not available outside the United Kingdom [UK]. 
Note: Before using BoB, you must register on the BoB site using your Bournemouth University e-mail address.

 

BoB operates under a specific licence offered in the UK so you must ensure that you comply with the licence terms and conditions.

British Pathe

 

The British Pathe Film Archive covers news, sport, social history and entertainment from 1896 to 1970. The database contains 3500 hours of moving image. Access to low resolution review material is free of charge. You are required to complete a registration form.

Originated from the merger of CommSearch (database of 26 journals in communication studies) and Mass Media Articles Index (database of over 40,000 articles related to mass media and published in over 60 research journals, as well as major journalism reviews, recent encyclopaedias, and handbooks in the area of communications studies). CMMC expands on the above adding full text for over 200 journal titles.

Factiva provides full text access to 20,000+ sources from more than 159 countries in 22 languages, including more than 400 continuously updated newswires. Coverage includes all major daily and business newspapers, primarily back to early 1990s. Sources also include both general business and industry publications such as The Economist, Forbes, Fortune, Finanz & Wirtschaft, BusinessWeek, Far Eastern Economic Review, etc., plus industry-specific titles such as Advertising Age, Caterer & Hotelkeeper, Computerworld, Retail Week and Travel Weekly.

The Independent Local Radio Programme Sharing Scheme 1983-1990: The Felicity Wells Memorial Archive
Between 1983-1990 the Association of Independent Radio Companies operated the Independent Local Radio Programme Sharing Scheme to share excellent drama, documentaries, features and current affairs between Independent Local Radio stations. Search and enjoy over 1150 programmes from this unique collection.

Central Southern England Independent Local Radio 1975 to 1990 Digitisation Project
This resource, c1300 individual programmes is a unique opportunity to listen again to programmes that were fortunately deposited with the Wessex Film and Sound Archive [WFSA] at the Hampshire Record Office in Winchester by independent local radio stations [ILRs] in the Central Southern (Dorset, Hampshire and Berkshire) area. A slice of culture, politics and events with a local perspective.

LBC/IRN Audio Archive

The Independent Radio News/London Broadcasting Company radio archive consists of 7,000 reel-to-reel tapes in a collection that runs from 1973 to the mid-1990s. This project focuses on the most noteworthy content - approximately 4,000 hours of recordings relating to news and current affairs.

An index of 160,000 records from over 20 British newsreels and cinemagazines released between 1910 and 1979. News on Screen contains 80,000 production documents and links to archive footage from the Pathe newsreel database. News on Screen provides contextual information, including a database of 600 newsreel personnel (editors, sound staff and cameramen), recordings and transcripts of interviews with cameramen and biographies of newsreels and cinemagazines. News on Screen also includes a number of texts on the history of newsreels and a database of relevant books and articles. Access is restricted to ac.uk domains. To access complete the simple registration form supplying name and e-mail address.

NewsFilm Online is a unique record of the 20th and 21st centuries comprising of 3000 hours of newsreel footage from the film archives of ITN/Reuters. Moving image can be viewed or downloaded and reused in academic work. Television and Radio Index for Learning and Teaching (TRILT)

TRILT is a comprehensive online listings service covering around 300 UK television and radio stations. Included are terrestrial, cable and satellite television (and regional variations), all national and many local radio stations, Asian-language, Irish, Scottish Gaelic and Welsh television and radio. Data is available at least five days in advance of transmission enabling you to identify forthcoming broadcasts for Off-Air Recording. The data is cumulated and contains a comprehensive record from 1995.
