Off-Campus Access to E-Resources
Most of the e-resources provided are now available off-campus and require a username and password to gain access. There are four main ways of gaining access off-campus. 1) Athens authenticated access Access to the majority of the e-resources is controlled by Athens authentication. An Athens personal account is needed to login off-campus. You are required to self-register for an Athens personal account. E-resources requiring an Athens personal account off-campus are identified by the note "Athens authenticated off-campus" included in the e-resource entry on the A-Z of Databases or the A-Z of E-journals. 2) Athens authenticated access using the Athens-Shibboleth gateway From 1st August 2008 there will be a change to the way you login to some Athens authenticated resources . This is as a result of developments in access and identity management; JISC's policy on access management for JISC services and the adoption of federated access via the UK Access Management Federation. The change involves an additional authentication screen where you will be prompted to select your home institution from a drop down list. Selecting Bournemouth University from the list will route you to an Athens login screen where you should input your Athens login details as usual. An Athens personal account is required. The resources currently affected by the change are: Archival Sound Recordings More resources may adopt this method of authentication in the future. E-resources using this login procedure are identified by the note "Athens personal account required" included in the e-resource entry on the A-Z of Databases. The additional screen looks like this: :
3) E-resource specific logins Some e-resources have not adopted Athens authentication but provide a specific username and password for access. Details of this login information can be found on the username and password document that can be obtained from the Library enquiry desks. 4) E-resources requiring staff/student login A number of e-resources previously unavailable off-campus are now available using your staff/student login. Off-campus access to these resources is only available by using the title links for the e-resources on the A-Z of databases or the A-Z of E-journals. E-resources requiring a staff/student login off-campus are identified by the note "BU staff/student login required for off-campus access" included in the e-resource entry on the A-Z of Databases or the A-Z of E-journals. The login screen looks like this:
