Bournemouth University subscribes to a wide range of e-resources; the information provided might include

  • Bibliographic information, giving reference to journal articles, conference proceedings, book chapters and newspapers;
  • Data (e.g. company financial information);
  • Full text documents.

Electronic books
Approximately 57,000 e-books are available. Most can be found by searching the Library Catalogue.

Electronic journals
Access to a wide range of full text electronic journals or e-journals is available. Links may be to individual titles or packages of titles, grouped by subject or publisher. Many titles are also available in paper format in the University Libraries. Check the Library Catalogue for details of print holdings.

Electronic newspapers
A selection of newspapers are available in full text with the option to search across a number of newspapers simultaneously. In addition, links to a range of newspaper web sites are available.

Accessing the e-resources
There are three routes by which e-resources may be accessed

  • Single point of access, where the e-resource is available at dedicated terminals in one of the University Libraries;
  • Local networked access, where the e-resource may be accessed from networked terminals throughout the University, including those in the Libraries and Open Access Computing Centres;
  • Internet-based access, where the e-resources may be accessed from networked terminals throughout the University, with an increasing number being also available off-campus.

Usernames and passwords
Access to some e-resources is controlled by username and password. This facilitates usage analysis, minimises unauthorised access and ensures compliance with licence agreements. All e-resources that are available off-campus are controlled in this way. Password sheets are available via the Library tab on myBU.
