ScanningContents:
IntroductionWe have previously had a Short Loan print collection in both libraries, housing material that lecturers or subject librarians considered to be in very heavy demand. This print collection has now been migrated to the eReserve facility in myBU or re-shelved with the main bookstock sequences as follows:
The advantage of eReserves is that it maximises access to resources for students both on- and off-campus, by making scanned book chapters and journal articles available to students on a given unit, via myBU. Scanning: what our licence allowsOur scanning licence enables us to scan journal articles and book chapters not otherwise available in digital format, but there are strict conditions, including:
There are limits on the amount that may be scanned - no more than 5% from a single published edition, or
For further information on scanning and myBU, please refer to the guide Copyright and myBU FAQs (PDF 138kb). Please use our online eReserves form to place a scanning request. Requesting items for eReservesPlease use our online eReserves form to place a scanning request for a copy of a book-chapter or journal article. Please allow sufficient time for the Library’s Reader Services staff to process the request. We will send you an email once the material has been digitised and you will then be able to create a link to the scanned document in your unit on myBU. If the title you are requesting is available as an e-book, an order for this format would normally be made. To find out about e-book availability in your subject area, please contact your Subject Librarian. If the e-book is a key text it will be added to the unit reading list. Requests for articles from e-journals found in our extensive e-journal collection will be satisfied with a link to that item on the unit reading list. Accessible copies for students using screen reading softwareIf one of your students needs an accessible copy of a scanned document, please ask them to email the eReserves team at ereserves@bournemouth.ac.uk, identifying the document(s) they need converting to OCR format. The eReserves team will then send an accessible copy to the student either by email or CD depending on file size. This type of request will be dealt with on an individual basis with the student concerned. CopyrightCurrent copyright law imposes restrictions on the type and amount of photocopied material that can be held by the Library or digitised material that can be stored on myBU. Staff will advise you if an item does not comply with the law. Further guidelines can be found at Copyright Compliance. Alternatively, you can contact the Library's copyright adviser, Rachel Geeson . Maintaining the collectionAt the beginning of June, each staff member will be emailed details of their current eReserve items. Please indicate whether you would like any items removing from your eReserves folders on myBU – N.B. if you do not reply to the email by the date specified, the scanned items will be removed from myBU before the start of the new academic year. Please be aware that you will have to recreate links within myBU to scanned items you choose to keep for the new academic year.
