Alerts & current awareness services

We now have over 28,000 e journals and 1,700 journals in print. Keeping up to date is a challenge for everyone. The following strategies may be helpful:

  • Save the successful searches that have worked for you in bibliographic databases as an ‘alert’. This means that the search will run periodically and you will receive an e-mail listing the most recent articles added to the database. The mechanism for creating alerts varies form interface to interface. You can consult the help pages for the database you use to see how to set up alerts or you can speak to your Subject Librarian.
  • Use table of contents (TOC) services. These services will e-mail you the table of contents of journal titles that you want to keep up to date with. ZETOC, provided by the British Library is the most comprehensive service. Many journal publishers also provide services for the journals they publish.

If you want any advice on alerts or TOC services please speak to your Subject Librarian.
