One particular Christmas a long time ago, Santa was getting ready for the annual trip .. but there were problems everywhere. Four of the elves were sick and the trainee elves were not producing toys quick enough to meet demand. Santa was beginning to feel stressed ... Mrs Claus had told him her mother was coming for the holidays (which meant she would probably stay until Easter), and this just stressed poor Santa more. When he went to harness his reindeer, he found that two of them were about to give birth and three others were sick and nowhere to be found following the annual reindeer Christmas knees-up the night before. More stress for Santa ...
Then while he was loading the sleigh, a floorboard cracked under his weight and the toy bag fell to the ground and scattered all the toys. Frustrated, Santa went into the house for a cup of coffee and a shot of whisky, only to find the sick elves' hot toddies had emptied the drinks cabinet. In his frustration, he dropped the coffee pot and it broke into hundreds of tiny pieces, splattering Santa's suit with coffee at the same time. He went to the broom closet to get a mop and broom to clear up the mess, only to find the mice had eaten all the straw from the broom. Even more stress for Santa ...
Just then the doorbell rang and Santa cussed his way to the door. It was an angel with a tall beautiful evergreen tree. The angel said cheerfully, "Merry Christmas Santa! Isn't it a wonderful day? I've brought you a lovely Christmas tree to celebrate with. Where would you like me to stick it?"
Thus began the tradition of the little angel on the top of the Christmas tree .....
