Student BorrowingContents:ID CardsWhen you register for your course, you will be given a university identity card with a bar code on it. This also acts as your Library card. You will need to present it each time you want to borrow any items, either through the self service machines or at the Help Zone desk. You should carry your ID card with you at all times on campus. Sign the card immediately and insert a current passport-style photograph. If you lose your card, report its loss at one of the Library desks immediately, so that we can block the number and prevent its misuse. To get a replacement ID Card you should then contact the team at askBU. How many items can I borrow?Undergraduate & Taught Postgraduate: How long can I borrow items for?Ordinary Loan - identified by white date label inside Student Loan period is 2 weeks plus 2 renewals of 2 weeks each If already reserved by someone else, it will be issued for one week only. Renewals are not permitted if the item has been reserved by another borrower, or if the item is more than one day overdue. Students on specified distance learning courses have a loan period of 6 weeks plus one renewal of 2 weeks, subject to there being no reservations on the item. Students with additional learning needs may be entitled to an extended loan period. One Week Loan - identified by pink date label inside Student Loan period is one week plus 1 renewal of one week Renewals are not permitted if the item has been reserved by another borrower, or if the item is more than one day overdue. Students with additional learning needs may be entitled to an extended loan period. Multimedia Loan - Videos, DVDs, CD-ROMS, Audio-tapes Student Loan period is one week. No renewals. Journals and Newspapers: these are not available for loan and may be used only in the Libraries. Reference Items (identified by a band of blue tape on the spine) and Before leaving the Library ensure that all items have been issued to you. There is an electronic security system in operation and any Library item which has not been issued correctly will set off an alarm at the Library exit. Library staff are authorised to search users' belongings before they leave.
