Opening hours
Access to the library is possible on a 24 hour basis to registered HSC students via Poole Hospital ID badges. Borrowing - Hospital LibraryAs a current Bournemouth University HSC student, you may borrow up to 8 items (books and journals) at any one time from the Hospital Library. You may borrow books for 3 weeks and renew in person or by phone, provided nobody else is waiting for an item. Whilst you will not be charged fines for overdue loans, you will receive reminder emails (3 days before the book is due back) and letters; lost items must be replaced or paid for. Return all loans as soon as you can to allow other readers to use the books. When the hospital library is closed, books may be left in the secure book return bin outside the library door. Please do not pass on material you have borrowed to someone else. You are responsible for it until it is returned to the library. Getting HelpThere is an Information Desk in the library where you can request help with using any aspect of the library service. You may also ring the library (internal ext. 2101) to receive help and advice. Information about library facilities can also be found on the Library site on the hospital's Intranet. You will also receive an induction from your hospital librarian. Details of the books and journals in the hospital library can be found on the SWIMS catalogue. This catalogue covers NHS libraries in the South West region; look for the library's code: D01. Library staff can help with use of the catalogue. The library blog provides news about library services, links to relevant research and new resources. A subject index is available to provide guidance on where books are shelved; Poole Hospital library also has a series of Book Topic Guides available to help locate books in their stock on topics such as ethics and communication. It is important to attend your timetabled university IT and library sessions, as they are designed to give you the skills to carry out research for your assignments. To complement these sessions, subject advice is available on a one-to-one basis at Bournemouth House Library through your Subject Support Library team. Any enquiries concerning the resources on the Bournemouth University library web pages should be addressed to the HSC subject support library team. Alternatively, you can ring Bournemouth University Library Enquiries on (01202) 965959. Photocopying FacilitiesThe photocopier is only available during staffed hours. You will need to bring money to operate the copier, at a cost of 5p per sheet, A4 only. The hospital photocopier can also be used as a scanner. Library IT FacilitiesThere are 19 computers in the Hospital Library , 11 of which are available for 24 hour access, and they provide MS Office, Intranet and Internet access.
