Opening hours
Access to the Library is possible on a 24-hour basis, seven days a week to registered HSC students. Out-of-hours access is by means of a Trust ID Card. The out-of-hours card must never be used by anyone else or to allow anyone else to enter or exit the Library. Remember to carry your Bournemouth University and Trust ID cards AT ALL TIMES. Borrowing - Hospital LibraryAs a current Bournemouth University HSC student, you may borrow up to 12 items (books and AV) at any one time from the Hospital Library. You may borrow books for up to four weeks and renew them in person or by phone, email or online at www.swims.nhs.uk. Journals are for reference only. To return books when the Hospital Library is closed, books may be left in the secure book return bin outside the Library door. Please note that if you borrow your books directly from the University you are responsible for returning them to that Library. University Library books cannot be returned to the Hospital Library. Please do not pass on material you have borrowed to someone else. You are responsible for it until it is returned to the Library. Getting helpYou will receive an induction from Hospital Library staff and may ask for assistance during staffed hours. It is important to attend your timetabled university and IT library sessions, as they are designed to give you the skills to carry out research for your assignments. To complement these sessions you can arrange subject advice on a one-to-one basis at Bournemouth House Library through your Subject Support Library team. Any enquiries concerning the resources on the Bournemouth University Library web pages should be addressed to the HSC subject support library team. Alternatively, you can ring Bournemouth University Library Enquiries on (01202) 965959. Requesting books and journal articles - other NHS librariesThe Hospital Library can obtain books or journal articles for final year undergraduates, post-registration students and research students if they are held in other NHS libraries within the South West region. Before making a request, please check that the item you want is not available in the Hospital Library or via Bournemouth University Library's A-Z list of e-journals. If it is not, complete an Inter Library Loan (ILL) form for each request. You will need to have a tutor's signature on the form prior to submitting at Salisbury District Hospital Library. The loan period is determined by the lending library, and items must be returned to Salisbury Library in time for them to be returned by the due date. NHS Athens accountAs a Bournemouth University student on an NHS-related course, each year you will automatically be sent an email enabling you to register for an NHS Athens account. This will allow you to access a collection of library e-resources purchased by the NHS, via the ‘Journals and Databases' section of NHS Evidence. If your activation code has expired or you have forgotten your username or password please contact mfoy@bournemouth.ac.uk . If you have created an NHS Athens Account via your hospital library you should direct all Athens-related queries to that hospital library. Student feedbackAt the Salisbury Hospital Library we welcome constructive comments from our users. This is possible through using our Library suggestions box that is available in the Library.
