SCONUL Access Scheme

SCONUL Access is a co-operative venture between most of the higher education libraries of the UK and Ireland. It enables staff, research students, full and part-time postgraduates and part-time, distance learning and placement students to borrow material from other libraries.

Access to other libraries will normally exclude use of computer-based information services.

Ask at the Library Help Zone or see the SCONUL web site for details on how to apply for membership.

SCONUL Vacation Access Scheme

University and higher education college libraries in the UK and Ireland offer vacation membership to undergraduate and taught postgraduate students of other UK/Ireland higher education institutions.

This normally permits reference access, free of charge, during the vacations of the host institution.  It does not normally cover borrowing privileges, though some institutions may offer limited borrowing in addition to this scheme.

To gain access to another HE Library, you should be prepared to show a form of ID, usually a current University ID card.

Access to other libraries will normally exclude use of computer-based information sources.

See the SCONUL web site for further details, and also the web site of the University you plan to visit, to check on access arrangements.
