Library Service Statement

General, the Library will:
Provide services as advertised.

Accommodation

The Library will:
Ensure that accommodation and facilities comply with health and safety requirements and are kept in good order.
Provide staff to help maintain an environment conducive to study.

We expect users to:
Respect the rights of other users by helping to maintain a quiet and appropriate study environment in the Libraries.
Be responsible in their use of facilities and materials.

Resources

The Library will:
Provide resources in both print and wherever possible in electronic format to support learning, teaching and research.
Monitor the use of materials to maximise their exploitation.
Charge fines on all overdue items.

We expect users to:
Abide by the regulations governing the use of the Library facilities and resources.
Return items on loan promptly.
Pay fines for items kept overdue.

Help and Advice

The Library will:
Ensure that staff are on duty to provide help and advice in the Libraries at core times.
Provide access to a virtual enquiry service.
Provide appropriate documentation to assist users in the exploitation of Library resources.
Provide a referral and appointment system to help with specialist information research.

We expect users to:
Take responsibility for clarifying and reviewing their information needs.
Arrive on time for appointments and cancel or re-arrange any appointments they are unable to attend.

Information skills

The Library will:
Offer all new student cohorts an induction to the Library during the student's first term at the University.
Offer all student cohorts further guidance in library and information skills later in their course.
Offer all staff access to programmes and advice to keep their information literacy skills up to date.

We expect users to:
Attend the information skills sessions arranged.
Take responsibility for applying the knowledge gained in such sessions in order to develop the information literacy skills necessary to support and manage their own learning.

Feedback and Monitoring

The Library will:
In all sites provide suggestion forms and display replies.
Provide web based suggestions and feedback.
Hold regular meetings of the Student and Academic Services and IT services Student Advisory Group.
Hold focus groups from time to time.

We expect users to:
Participate actively in the feedback process, with timely, open and honest communication.
