An Evening with Minette Walters9 March 2007
During An Evening with Minette Walters on Thursday 17 May the University will welcome the woman known as the ‘queen of the psychological thriller’. Since 1992, when she published her first best-seller The Ice House, Ms Walters has captivated readers and critics alike with works that explore the darker side of life. Ms Walters’ novels have been published in 35 different languages and she’s won numerous awards including the Crime Writers’ Association John Creasey award for best first novel, The Ice House. She has also won the Edgar Allan Poe Award for best crime novel published in the USA, The Sculptress. Five of her novels, to date, have been adapted for television with a sixth currently in development. Ms Walters, who lives in west Dorset, is just putting the finishing touches on her 12th book, The Chameleon’s Shadow, which is set for publication later in the year. Bournemouth University bestowed an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree on Ms Walters in November, 2005 in recognition of her phenomenal global success as a writer and her connections with the county. Last December, Ms Walters helped to officially open the University’s new crime house ‘Rose Cottage’ which allows forensic students to carry out full-scale simulated crime scene investigations and test protocols. Bournemouth University’s An Evening with Minette Walters is the fourth in a series of such activities which aims to bring the community and university closer together. Peter Alliss, another of Bournemouth’s Honorary Doctorates, ‘teed off’ the series in November 2005 followed by fellow ‘Hon Docs’ Bill Bryson last May and Murray Walker last December. Tickets for An Evening with Minette Walters are £15.00 per person which includes pre-event refreshments and a post-event buffet reception.
