Visiting Professor Anthony Lilley

Paying attention: the changing value of media in the internet age - Visiting Professor Anthony Lilley

Anthony Lilley is Chief Executive and Chief Creative Officer of the BAFTA and Peabody award-winning interactive media company Magic Lantern Productions which specialises in making engaging interactive media.

One of the country's leading experts in interactive media, he was recently appointed as Visiting Professor to the University’s Centre for Excellence in Media Practice (CEMP).

In this lecture Anthony Lilley discussed whether or not paying for media content in the digital age should be determined by the real or unique value of that content.

  • Professor Stuart Allan

    Re-envisioning journalism: when theory meets practice - Professor Stuart Allan

    Professor Stuart Allan came to BU in 2007 with expertise in a wide range of journalism-related experience and research interests.

    These range from online news, with special interests in crisis, conflict and war reporting (especially the role of citizen journalism) to journalism history and the relationship between young people, citizenship and digital media.

    During his lecture, Professor Allan considered the hotly-contested questions about what counts as journalism today and what it means to be a journalist, focusing particularly on the ways in which the internet is transforming journalism as a profession. 

    Professor Edwin van Teijlingen

    Midwifery and maternity research across the globe - Professor Edwin van Teijlingen

    Leading maternity expert Professor Edwin van Teijlingen is Professor of Maternal & Perinatal Health Research, based within BU’s School of Health & Social Care.

    Addressing some of the key research issues in the organisation of maternity care and midwifery, Professor van Teijlingen drew on his recent research into UK rural maternity care and his involvement in maternity care research in Nepal.

    He also presented some of the on-going and planned studies in BU’s Centre for Midwifery, Maternal & Perinatal Health, of which he is Co-Director.

    Professor Dimitrios Buhalis

    eTourism strategies 2020 - Professor Dimitrios Buhalis

    Professor Dimitrios Buhalis joined BU in September 2007 as Established Chair in Tourism and is Deputy Director of the University’s International Centre for Tourism & Hospitality Research.

    During his lecture Professor Buhalis reflected on his 20 years of research into tourism management, strategy and the impact of Information Computer Technologies (ICT) on the industry.

    This was a multi-media lecture streamed live to audiences around the world who, along with audience members present at the event, virtually participated in the discussion via several platforms including Twitter, Facebook and email.

    Professor Ralph Clarke

    Experiences from a variable life of environmental statistics - Professor Ralph Clarke

    Professor Ralph Clarke, based within BU’s School of Conservation Sciences, is one of the country’s leading environmental statisticians

    Drawing on his 30 years of experience, Professor Clarke explained how we can better understand our environment and our impact on it by looking at statistical variability and inter-relationships

    He also reflected on his role as co-author in a major paper on the successful reintroduction of the Large Blue butterfly into the British countryside. The paper, Successful Conservation of a Threatened Maculinea Butterfly (or Large Blue butterfly), was published in 'Science', one of the world's highest rated journals for scientific research.

    Professor Teck Yong Eng

    Marketing in network environments - Professor Teck Yong Eng

    Professor Teck Yong Eng joined BU’s Business School in September 2008 as Professor of Marketing and is Director of the School’s Centre for Research in Management.

    During this lecture Professor Eng gave an overview of current research into marketing networks and discussed the ways in which networks are constructed when individuals and organisations interact.

    Emphasising the significance of networks in marketing contexts he reiterated the importance of customer focus, marketing intelligence and organisation-wide practice to gain sustained competitive advantage in the commercial world.
