The applied research activities at Bournemouth University have earned an international reputation in many subject areas with impressive results in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise.

BU offers a wide range of opportunities to study at postgraduate level, supported by academic staff with high level expertise gained through their research activity, connections with industry and/or professional experience. Our suite of research degree programmes can be studied on a full or part-time basis. Applications from international students who wish to study in the UK are welcome.

Embarking upon a research degree is one of the most exciting stages of your academic career. Poised on the edge of a voyage of discovery, it is often reassuring to know that you can make that journey as part of a community of like-minded researchers. It is also important to know that the journey is well mapped out and that you have the support of a team of dedicated, enthusiastic and professional staff. Your supervisory team will help you find the appropriate pathway for your research. The Graduate School works with your supervisors and research administrator to provide the infrastructure that makes your research efficient, enjoyable and, most of all, successful.

Applicants should explore the web pages of the relevant Academic School or Research Centre to get current information about BU’s research activities. The aim of a research degree is to provide a thorough discipline specific training through original investigation and experiment.

Postgraduate Researchers are also supported by the Graduate School, which provides generic research methodology and Roberts’ Skills training and development.
