Excel Sport Performance and Scholarship Programme

The EXCEL Sports Performance and Scholarship Programme supports varsity athletes in their quest to combine sporting and academic excellence.

The programme provides athletes with numerous support services, developing athletes on both an individual and team basis.

Scholarships are available to talented athletes in all sports within the BUCS domestic programme, whatever your subject area.

The programme is now attracting athletes of national and international standard.

To be eligible for an EXCEL Scholarship, athletes must represent the University.

Scholarship Agreement

As part of your BU scholarship agreement there are certain criteria tha must be adhered to:

• We ask that you meet with the Sports Performance Manager at the start of the year to identify your goals and how your scholarship will assist you.
• We ask that you represent sportBU where possible as a member of the university sports team or representation at a specific competition. 
• We ask that you commit to attending over 75% of training sessions, including strength and conditioning.
• We ask that you take part in squad photographic sessions and allow us to use these for promotional purposes.
• We ask that you help us to promote the sporting profile of sportBU, providing information (termly and annual progress reports) regarding events and competitions that you have participated in.
• We ask that you assist sportBU in the promotion of the University as an excellent provider of sport and support services for sports people

Excel

Varsity athletes in the EXCEL Programme will ideally represent the University and/or club at national or international standard.

We are committed to EXCEL athletes and are able to support them from the following provisions:

• Scholarship agreement
• Quality coaching
• Free ACTIV8 membership (gym and fitness classes)
• Free training programme design
• Free strength and conditioning training
• Free injury strapping
• Free access to Lifeskills Programme
• Free sports massage therapy treatments
• Free injury triage
• Access to BASES accredited sport psychologist
• Goal setting and performance planning
• Free mentoring support
• Access to coach education courses
• Free varsity tracksuit

Acceptance Criteria to the EXCEL Programme

• Will be reviewed annually
• Will be subject to regular meetings with a mentor
• There will be two meetings per term for EXCEL Athletes
Maybe withdrawn at the discretion of the EXCEL Programme Manager.

£1000 Sports Scholarships

• There are 15 Sports Scholarships available, to share bewteen undergraduate and postgraduate students.
• The value of the award is £1000 per level of study (see the application form for more details).
