Focus SportssportBU's key vision is to be in the top 25 institutions in the British Universities Sports Association (BUCS) overall rankings by 2012. Since 2002 Bournemouth University have successfully moved up the BUSA Rankings from 85th to 36th. Effectively Bournemouth are ranked within the top 6 institutions for golf and tennis. By virtue of receiving funding from the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews (R&A) for it golf performance programme and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) for its tennis performance programme and coaching scholarships. To help achieve this vision sportBU has identified and launched three focus sports: The focus sports were chosen following a demanding and grueling selection process. By focusing staff time and energy into these sports Bournemouth University can be competitive with the very best institutions in the UK. sportBU will continue to support other sports teams and elite athletes in the BUCS and local leagues. The focus sports will receive additional benefits including pro-active recruitment, specific workshops aimed at holistic athlete development and quality coaching opportunities. |
