Performance SportssportBU's key vision is to be in the top 25 institutions in the British Universities Sports Association overall rankings by 2012. In the last four years the University has risen from 135th to 36th. To help achieve this vision sportBU runs the EXCEL Sports Performance and Scholarship Programme that supports elite athletes in their quest to combine sporting and academic excellence. The programme provides athletes with numerous support services, developing athletes on both an individual and team basis. In 2003 sportBU identified and launched three focus sports. By focusing resources, staff time and energy into these sports Bournemouth University can be competitive with the very best institutions in the UK.
