Releasing Research - Enterprise Potential

Bournemouth University (BU) has embarked on a radical programme of investment and change to achieve the research aspirations set out in the new Corporate Plan. At its heart this involves a transition from a teaching dominated environment to a more balanced one in which research, enterprise and education are equal partners. The transition is challenging and requires investment in Bournemouth's key assets - the staff whose collective intellectual output defines the University's research and educational status.

RREP Programme: 2007-2008

This programme is aimed at staff who have the potential
to develop their research-enterprise capability. This group of staff need additional institutional support to enthuse them and to develop confidence in their research-enterprise capacity. This programme is about facilitating confidence in individuals to undertake research and to encourage them engage through publication and grant/contract bidding with external bodies. The programme has two main targets: (1) new staff members who have just embarked on a research career and (2) those in mid-career who wish to become research active.

Management of the Programme

Overall responsibility for the delivery of the programme during 2007/08 rests with Professor Matthew Bennett, Deputy Dean (Research), School of Conservation Sciences, supported by Colleen Harding (Staff Development Manager). Management will be provided by a steering group consisting of Professor Nick Petford (PVC: Research and Enterprise), Professor Matthew Bennett , Colleen Harding and Pam Johnstone (Head of Research Unit, CRKT).

Evaluation

Feedback will be collected from members of the programme both at the beginning and end of the programme and a report will be submitted to the University Executive Group. In addition the research outputs of cohort members will be tracked using the annual monitoring of research outputs over the next three years.
