Education Excellence Staff Development Programme

The University has invested in the development of staff in order to increase their confidence and competence in engaging in research, enterprise and professional practice. It is now timely to encourage and actively support staff in reflecting on, and developing, their educational practice; including how research, enterprise and professional practice activities can both inform and underpin their education practice.  In addition, revisions in curriculum design create more opportunities for staff to be creative about how they facilitate student-centred learning.   Whilst some staff have made good progress in these areas, we have not always been in a position to support staff to reflect and build on their current practice, and opportunities for staff to share their work, or to act as role models have been limited. Providing more formal and structured opportunities for staff educational development is important in developing staff expertise, improving the educational profile and recognition of BU staff internally and externally, and will ultimately benefit the quality of the student experience.

Participant Goals

Staff will set a challenge, goal or output to achieve whilst they are on the Programme, aligned with the BU education strategy.  The programme will include a mix of master-classes, workshops, presentations, action learning, coaching and mentoring with the dual purpose of both supporting these staff to reflect on their own practice and work towards their next challenge, whilst developing their own skills as coaches, mentors and action learning set facilitators.  Following completion of the programme, staff will be involved in leading and supporting educational discourse in the University, for example by facilitating education practice communities, disseminating good practice internally and externally through publication, conference and workshop leadership and mentoring and supporting others.
