The INFER Project

The INFER (computational INtelligence platform For Evolving and Robust predictive systems) project secured €1.5 million of funding from European Union's FP7 Industry and Academia Partnerships and Pathways programme. INFER involves 25 academics from organisations in three different countries including Evonik Industries from Germany, one of the world's leading companies in the process industry and Research and Engineering Centre (REC) from Poland, a highly innovative software engineering company.

The project will focus on pervasively adaptive software systems for the development of an open modular computational INtelligence software platform For Evolving and Robust predictive systems (INFER) applicable in various commercial settings and industries. The main innovation of the project is a novel type of environment in which the “fittest” predictive model for whatever purpose will emerge –either autonomously or by user high-level goal-related assistance and feedback.

The project involves:

  1. Research activity in the fields of machine learning, software engineering and process technology;
  2. Transfer of knowledge activity between the industry and academia in form of secondments of staff and targeted short courses; and
  3. Professional software development and application in the industry.

Workshop on Adaptive Prediction Systems (for Evolving Streaming Data)

On Thursday 4 August 2011 the INFER Project team will be hosting a workshop with contributions from Prof. Bogdan Gabrys, Dr João Gama (University of Porto, Portugal), Dr Rogerio de Lemos (University of Kent, UK) and Albert Bifet (University of Waikato, New Zealand).

The goal of the workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners to discuss advances and challenges in designing and building adaptive prediction systems. The workshop will feature 4 invited talks and a panel discussion. Venue to be confirmed.

Keywords: adaptive systems, concept drift, evolving data streams, change detection

Location: Room K101, Kimmeridge House, Bournemouth University, Talbot Campus, Fern Barrow, Poole, BH12 5BB
