Staff Development Policy

2. PROCESSES

Staff development encompasses all the policies, practices and procedures provided to support and develop the capabilities of staff in order to improve the quality of their work and the success of the University. It is an ongoing process, closely linked to the Performance Appraisal Scheme , and is facilitated by addressing continuing Personal and Professional Development Planning through a broad spectrum of activities. These encourage productive and mutually supporting working relationships across a diverse staff base by creating opportunities for cross-institutional working and collaboration, which are crucial to the University achieving its strategic goals. The process is facilitated through activities such as: induction, probation, mentoring, coaching, Doctoral Track, peer observation, workshops, events, online learning, award bearing activities, portfolio development, networking and consultancy and conferences.

All staff, including part-time staff, should have access to staff development opportunities appropriate to their role and individual needs.
