Find a Mentor

Essentially, there are four options when looking for a mentor:

1) The relationship evolves naturally and this often happens with informal mentoring

2) Mentees identify a suitable mentor based on their knowledge of that person and their experience. However, staff do not always know enough about colleagues in other Schools to make an informed choice about a suitable mentor. We are currently building a database of mentors to help facilitate this option.

3) An interventionist approach where we match the mentor and the mentee and the pairing is undertaken by a third party. There are a number of indicators that suggest this isn't the most successful way of matching although it may be necessary in some cases

4) A third party facilitates the process. Research indicates that the greatest level of buy-in seems to come from giving the mentee a selection of potential mentors if they have not been able to find their own. On some of our formal programmes we offer speed mentoring with mentors to help you identify potential mentors.
