9-Week Counselling Development Course 2012

The 2012 course will begin on Thursday 19th January.

This is a 9 week course facilitated by Dr Bill Merrington. It is designed to develop skills in listening to students’ problems and issues in the context of helping relationships which can facilitate positive change.  It is based on Carl Rogers’ principles that underpin many models of counselling. However, each week we will also briefly look at other models such as bereavement counselling, psychotherapy, problem solving, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, play therapy etc. The course concludes with a recorded counselling session providing feedback from the course tutor.

It provides experiential development in some key skills which can be used in an informal way.  It is compatible with and serves as an introduction to formal counselling courses for staff who might wish to develop their skills further.

Full course material and a certificate of attendance will be provided to participants.

Who is it for?

  • Anyone who meets students regularly on a one to one basis with whom a student might want or need to share issues. Participants may be academic or professional and support staff.
