Assessment and feedbackAssessment is one of the major 'drivers' of the education process and should be an integral element that supports learning. Providing effective feedback is critical to this view of assessment for learning. The resources here give examples of innovative assessment and feedback methods in use at BU and elsewhere.
CASPAR is a package developed by the Centre for Excellence in Media Practice (CEMP) to support student peer assessment in groups. In order to make feedback more effective, much research has gone into understanding what students think about feedback. This series of videos from Anglia Ruskin University shows a focus group of students discussing aspects of assessment feedback. They also have resources that offer practical guidance on ensuring that programmes and materials are accessible to all students. The University of Bath's site Feedback to students provide useful guides on the principles and practice of effective feedback. Flinders University provides examples of giving formative feedback to large classes during the lecture and advice on turning your written comments on assignments into feedback that students can use. Sheffield Hallam University's guide provides insight into Accessible assessments: A guide to inclusive practice. Assessment & Learning in Practice Settings (ALPS) is a Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning focused on assessment in practice settings in the health and social care disciplines. REAP Re-Engineering Assessment Practices in Scottish Higher Education. The REAP project involves designing and evaluating innovative assessment practices in large enrolment first year classes across a range of disciplines. Various technologies have been used to support assessment re-design including virtual learning environments (VLEs), e-Portfolios, electronic voting systems, computer simulations, podcasts and new communication tools. Roehampton University London offers lots of good ideas and useful tips on Assessment and Feedback. A wide range of resources on all aspects of assessment, including evidence-based research to inform practice, is available on the Higher Education Academy website. Resources to help students understand assessment and how to get the most from feedback are a key feature of the LearnHigher CETL site, which also holds resources for tutors leading student workshops.
