Quality Assurance Agency (QAA)
The primary responsibility for academic standards and quality in UK higher education rests with individual universities and colleges, each of which is independent and self-governing. The Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) checks how well they meet their responsibilities, identifying good practice and making recommendations for improvement.

The QAA conducts periodic audits of all higher education institutions. The most recent audit was undertaken in December 2008 and confirmed confidence in the University arrangements for the management of standards and the quality of learning opportunities made available to students. The report also confirmed the following aspects of good practice:

Higher Education Academy (HEA)
The HEA supports the sector in providing the best possible learning experience for all students. They do this by working with individual academics to give them access to professional recognition, advice and support, as well as networking and development opportunities to enhance their teaching.

Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE)
Working in partnership, the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) promotes and funds high-quality, cost-effective teaching and research, meeting the diverse needs of students, the economy and society.

Sector Skills Councils (SSCs)
The Alliance is an organisation comprising all licensed UK Sector Skills Councils (SSCs), the employer-driven organisations that together articulate the voice of the employers of around 90% of the UK's workforce on skills issues.

Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA)
Staff and Educational Development Association (SEDA) is the professional association for staff and educational developers in the UK , promoting innovation and good practice in higher education. SEDA is seen by many as the shaper of thought and initiator of action in staff and educational development, not only in the UK but also in the international domain also.
