InternationalisationBU defines internationalisation as "the process of integrating the international/intercultural dimension into teaching, research and service functions of the institution" (Knight, J., 1994. Internationalisation: elements and checkpoints, Canadian Bureau for International Education). The University is also committed to fostering a global outlook and preparing students to become responsible, global citizens. The Centre for Global Perspectives supports Schools in developing understanding of the concept of global citizenship and in embedding internationalisation within the curriculum. For a fuller explanation of the the interrelationship between these terms see the Centre's website. The Centre for International Curriculum Inquiry and Networking (CICIN) at Oxford Brookes University has developed an Internationalising the Curriculum Resource Kit that provides ideas for internationalising curriculum design, content and education and assessment practices. International students enrich the University's culture and environment and, having experienced education in a different culture before arriving at BU, may require support to adapt to BU's learning context. Ideas and resources for lecturers can be found in the HEA's International Students Lifecycle Resource Bank that has been developed "to improve the quality of teaching and learning for international students through providing guidance and information about how to meet the diverse learning needs of international students, and, importantly, in ways that will benefit all students". |
